The sedative effects of valerian have been recognised for over 2000 years, having been used by Hippocrates and Dioscorides in ancient Greece. Over the past 500 years, valerian has been widely used in Europe for nervousness or hysteria and also to treat reflux and flatulence.
Dosage:
Not recommended for use in pregnancy
Safety should be taken when driving a car or operating heavy machinery when high doses are used.
Adverse Reactions:
Serious adverse effects have not been reported.
May cause morning drowsiness
May cause vivid dreams in some individuals
Avoid in known allergy.
Drug Interactions:
- Sedatives/benzodiazepines: Do not use concurrently
- Haloperidol : Do not use concurrently
