Turmeric is usually used in medicine for the treatment of inflammatory and digestive disorders. In Ayurvedic medicine it is used to treat a variety of disorders including arthritis,skin conditions, inflammation, intestinal worms, hepatic disorders, biliousness, reflux, diarrhoea, constipation and colic. In addition to its use in cardiovascular disease and gastrointestinal disorders, research has focused on turmeric's antioxidant, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic and antimicrobial properties.
Dosage:
Not recommended for use in pregnancy
Turmeric is contraindicated in bile duct obstruction
High doses best avoided in males wishing to conceive
Contraindicated in breast cancer
Do not use turmeric 1 week prior to major surgery.
Adverse Reactions:
Serious adverse effects have not been reported.
Avoid in known allergy.
Drug Interactions:
- Antiplatelet drugs - Do not use concurrently
- Anticoagulant drugs - Do not use concurrently
- Cyclophosphamide - Do not use concurrently
