Consultations

All consultations are paid for in advance. If you can not make your appointment time please give us 24 hours notice so we can reschedule.

If you do not give 24 hours notice you will forfeit 50% of your consultation fee.

Please phone us or use our contact form to notify us of any cancellations.

You can book an online naturopathic consultation easily by visiting the consultation page and booking an Initial Consultation. You can select your chosen date and time.

Once booked our naturopath Tricia will be in touch with the details you will need to know.

Essential Naturopathy only offers online naturopathic consultations via Zoom video conference or by telephone.

This allows us to offer more flexible hours and times and enables you to organise a consultation easily without having to take too much time out of your schedule for travel.

Once you book in our naturopath will contact you and take care of the set-up for you.

Once you have booked our naturopath Tricia will email you to arrange the set-up of your consultation which is very easy.

During the consultation Tricia takes a comprehensive history of your health, past and present, as well as finding out what you eat and drink, your activities, your medications and supplements.

This takes approx 60 minutes.

Tricia will then spend some time preparing your first phase of treatment, ordering any tests or organising supplements/herbal medicines that are deemed necessary.

This really depends on your current health condition.

If it is an acute condition for e.g. cough or sore throat this may be treated in one consultation if you require further testing or have had a chronic health condition or disease you will most likely need follow-up consultations.

If you have had a condition for many years you must understand that it can take some time to rectify it.

Naturopaths can write you a referral letter for blood tests that may be needed to further determine your health picture to take to your local pathology clinic or GP.

Naturopaths may provide you with their own testing methods that could include:

  • Stool Analysis to understand the levels of "good, bad and ugly" bacteria in the microbiome
  • GI-MAP test which is an advanced method test option to identify gut bacteria, parasites, viruses, yeast infections, pathogens that are most commonly found in auto immune diseases plus other markers of digestion and gut health.
  • Organic acid test (OAT) which shows you a snapshot of what is happening inside gut, brain, adrenals and liver cells
  • Adrenal Profile and cortisol tests
  • Female and Male hormone profiles
  • SIBO breath test. The most accurate test for methane and hydrogren dominant SIBO.
  • Genetic ancestry testing or genetic analysis
  • Comprehensive cardiovascular profile including methylation genes, histamine, homocysteine, inflammation profile, cholesterol, liposcan, lipoproteins A & B.
  • Food allergy and sensitivity assessments of blood IgE or IgG

These tests are for a comprehensive analysis for more chronic cases and may not be recommended to all patients.

All consultations are paid for in advance. If you can not make your appointment time please give us 24 hours notice so we can reschedule.

If you do not give 24 hours notice you will forfeit 50% of your consultation fee.

Please phone us or use our contact form to notify us of any cancellations.

Naturopathy

Naturopathy is an alternative medical model that is based upon years of traditional plant knowledge through evolution which is backed by evidence based research.

Naturopathy focuses on a "prevention is better than cure" mentality even though many health conditions can be treated using this modality. Your naturopath will use nutritional medicine, herbal medicine and lifestyle interventions to get to the root cause of your health concerns and support all body systems rather than just eliminating symptoms.

Yes. It is, unfortunately it is not standardised across Australia.

Essential Naturopathy only hires Naturopaths that hold a tertiary Bachelor degree in science or higher.

We have a zero tolerance between any non-evidence based communication to you.

We believe that Naturopathy is not a substitute for modern medicine and we integrate what we do across the board with all health practitioners e.g. doctors, psychologists, pathologists etc.

We are not part of non evidence based systems such as Energy Healing, Homeopathy, Iridology, Kinesiology, Crystal Healing etc.

Our herbs are sourced all around the world based on where the plant originates from locally. We always look for the best quality organic, wildcrafted, pesticide free varieties for our Herbal Medicines.

Through millions of years of evolution humans have accumulated the health benefits of plants into medicine. With scientific methods herbal medicine can be used to treat a wide range of health conditions and supports body systems.

Our Products

Essential Naturopathy's products do not contain gluten, dairy, meat, peanuts, sesame, shellfish, yeast or eggs.

They do however contain herbs as listed in each product description.

Some people may have allergies to certain flowers or plants

Products with honey should not be given to children under 1

Essential Naturopathy's herbal tinctures are vegan

Our syrups contain honey but can be made vegan if you get in touch with us.

A herbal tincture is a concentrated liquid form of one or more herbs.

Herbs used in teas or in food are very beneficial however when herbs are immersed in an alcohol and water solution for many weeks the beneficial chemical components of each plant are properly extracted to make a potent medicine.

Alcohol is a powerful (and safe) solvent

Alcohol is an excellent solvent for herbs, because it can extract the compounds and active ingredients that aren’t water-soluble, such as essential oils, alkaloids and resins. It’s also the only edible solvent that can effectively extract the ingredients required.

The body can absorb alcohol quickly

Alcohol-based tinctures are extremely fast-acting, because alcohol can enter our bloodstream very quickly. Our tongue and cheeks contain lots of capillaries which quickly absorb the alcohol. This means that when we place some drops under our tongue, we’re not actually digesting the extract. Rather, it’s entering our bloodstream almost immediately to deliver the tincture’s potent properties.

Alcohol is a preservative

Alcohol gives herbal extracts a longer shelf-life – in most cases at least five years. Or think of an aged Whiskey.

Alcohol allows us to create potent tinctures

Alcohol-based tinctures are also highly potent and concentrated, meaning only a very small dose is required to reap the benefits. In fact, everyday food items such as an overripe banana and fermented fruit and vegetables contain approximately the same amount of alcohol as a single dose of a liquid extract.

We use certified beverage grade 95% Ethanol made from sugar cane

Our herbal tinctures have a shelf life of 5 years as long as they are kept out of direct sunlight.

You do not need to refrigerate them however they should be stored in a dark place.

We have provided you with a UV black lined box and UV bottle to ensure longevity of your herbal medicines.

Our herbal syrups should be refrigerated once opened and have a best before of 3-4 months in the fridge,

Our Herbal Tinctures are handmade and batched therefore some slight differences may occur.

Levels of chemical constituents vary quite naturally and plants are affected by growing conditions such as altitude, weather, soil, plant age, when it was harvested and where the seeds come from etc.

Each batch may be slightly different.

Also liquid herbs are solutions which could mean that the dissolved substance may fall out of the solution despite extensive straining techniques you may see very small particles of plant matter in your herbal medicine. We recommend vigorous shaking before each dos

All of our products will have a recommended dosage amount written on your bottle.

Get in touch with our naturopath if you have any questions about this.

Do not exceed the daily dosage recommendations.

Herbal Medicines work best when you are consistent and do not skip days/doses.

If you are treating an acute condition such as a cough or sore throat you may stop taking the herbal medicines shortly after it goes away.

However if you are someone who is correcting poor digestion, sleep issues, liver problems etc. you may want to continue your formula daily for a longer period.

We have patients who use herbal medicines everyday and some who only use them for short periods of time. Get in touch with us if you have any questions.

Stop taking the herbal medicine immediately and get in touch with us.

You can reduce the amount of alcohol by adding the Liquid Herbal Extract to 3 ounces boiling water. Let cool for at least 5 minutes before consuming. This will allow about 60% of the alcohol to evaporate.

The amount of alcohol in a serving of a Liquid Herbal Medicine is quite low.

Approx one dose of herbal medicine containing 60% alcohol in 30ml of warm water would be the equivalent of consuming about 1/100 of a glass of wine.

Our herbal medicines do have a strong taste.

Though in comparison to many other brands they are naturally quite sweet due to ingredients like licorice and thyme or florals like chamomile and lavender being used.

Our detox herb contains bitter herbs which are naturally quite strong in taste.

We avoid adding sugar syrups to our medicines as many of our patients want to avoid excess sugars and we do not believe it helps health.

Also many of the results we want for e.g. increased digestion begins in the mouth and relies on a bitter herbal remedy to get the benefit we are looking for therefore we do not want to mask the taste.

We tell our patients it is like having a shot of tequila at the bar!

Chase it with a spoonful of honey or some juice/ piece of fruit afterwards if you must.

Diluting our herbs in water or juice can also help.

We recommend you do not take any herbal medicines while pregnant.

If you are breastfeeding get in touch with our naturopath so she can advise whether the herbs you would like to take are safe for your baby.

If you are taking prescription medication we suggest getting in contact with us so we can properly inform you of which herbs may interact with the drugs you are taking.

Any medicine can create adverse reactions if they are not taken as suggested.

We strongly advise you stick to the dosage recommendations provided on the bottles and boxes.

DO NOT drink from the bottle instead measure out your correct dose.

If you are usually sensitive to medications or supplements get in touch so we can advise you.

Some people suit drop dosages especially if lower in weight, eldery or children.

If you have a condition that inhibits alcohol consumption get in touch so we can provide you with a tea or tablet option.
